Lam Al-Ta'reef لام أل التعريف
DEFINITION • التعريف
Lam Al-Ta'reef is the extra Lam in الـ that makes nouns definite. It has two main Tajweed cases: clear pronunciation with the 14 moon letters and merging with the 14 sun letters.
لام أل: هي لام التعريف الزائدة عن بنية الكلمة، تدخل على الأسماء لتعريفها، وحكمها بين الإظهار القمري والإدغام الشمسي.
HUKM • الحكم
حكمها: إظهار مع الحروف القمرية، وإدغام مع الحروف الشمسية.
Hukm: Izhar with moon letters, and Idgham with sun letters.
Lam Al-Fi'l لام الفعل
RULE • القاعدة
لام الفعل: لام ساكنة في فعل، متوسطة أو متطرفة. تدغم مع ل أو ر، وإلا فالإظهار.
Lam Al-Fi'l: A sakinah Lam inside a verb, middle or final. It is merged with Lam or Ra; otherwise it is pronounced clearly (Izhar).

مثال الإدغام: ﴿قُل رَّبِّ﴾ ﴿قُل لَّا﴾ — مثال الإظهار: ﴿قُلْ هُوَ﴾ ﴿جَعَلْنَا﴾
Idgham examples: Qul Rabb... and Qul La.... Izhar examples: Qul Huwa and Ja'alna.

Lam Al-Harf لام الحرف
RULE • القاعدة
لام الحرف: لا توجد إلا في هل وبل في القرآن. حكمها كحكم لام الفعل: إدغام مع ل أو ر، وإلا إظهار.
Lam Al-Harf: In the lesson source, this Lam occurs only in Hal (هل) and Bal (بل) in the Quran. Its rule follows Lam Al-Fi'l: Idgham with Lam or Ra; otherwise Izhar.
HAFS NOTE • ملاحظة حفص
استثناء عند حفص: ﴿بَلْ رَانَ﴾ فيها سكت، فتظهر اللام رغم مجيء الراء بعدها.
In the Hafs exception Bal Rana, the sakt is observed, so the Lam remains clear before Ra.

مثال الإظهار: ﴿هَلْ يَسْتَوِي﴾
مثال الإدغام: ﴿هَلْ لَكُمْ﴾
Izhar: Hal yastawi. Idgham: Hal lakum.
BAL • بَلْ
مثال الإظهار: ﴿بَلْ نَحْنُ﴾
مثال الإدغام: ﴿بَلْ لَا﴾
Izhar: Bal nahnu. Idgham: Bal la.
